I started looking for a dog again, this time on Petfinder. Here are my findings:
I called my mom today to ask her a silly cooking question, and during our conversation she called Charley over to her so that she could take him outside. Since I haven't seen Charley, oh, since Tuesday (it feels like forever ago!), I asked if I could say hi to him. So she put the phone to his ear and I said, "Hi Charley, hi Charley! This is Katie! Hi Charley!" My mom got back on the phone and said he was looking at the phone like crazy wondering how he was hearing me. After that I hung up and went back to trying to thaw some two-week old Holiday Potatoes my mom made for my birthday. But, after about 30 seconds, my mom called me back. She said that Charley was going crazy trying to find me! He went to the garage door, and then to the front door. When she took him outside, he sat out there looking for me still! Oh, what a silly dog. I'm happy to know that he loves me too.
In other Charley news, he had a rough day yesterday. He was neutered, and while at the animal hospital, they also pulled five of his baby teeth and put a microchip in him. And to make matters worse, my dad told me that when he was out on the deck that day, he found a bee, put it in his mouth, and wouldn't let go. So, he probably got stung as well. Poor guy.
And on a non-Charley note, tomorrow is a big day. The awesome iPhone will be released just after I get off of work, and I am heading over to every and any Apple and AT&T store until I get one. I can't wait to watch NBC's The Office on it... We're almost at threat level: midnight, people!
(By the way, it angers me when people complain about how the iPhone is so unbelievable expensive. Do people not remember that the Motorola RAZR was like $700 when it was first released?)
Little Charley, who has been home for a little over two weeks now, is already growing up. He'll be 14-weeks old on Thursday, and his face is now fuller and less dark. Hopefully he doesn't continue changing so fast! I fear that pretty soon he won't fit on my lap in the car. When we first got him, he fit perfectly lying on top of my legs length-wise, but now his rear curls around. He's also old enough that he's getting his last round of vaccinations on Friday, and then he can finally meet other dogs. He starts puppy class next month, too!
Yesterday we trimmed the hair on his feet and rear, brushed his coat, washed his face, and cleaned up his eye buggers. In honor of his traumatic experience, I took a few pictures afterward with my dad's DSLR. Here's my favorite:
Saturday evening my parents and I drove out to Black Diamond to pick up their new Havanese puppy, Charley. Since we brought him home, the only real difficulties we've had with him was teaching him where to go to the bathroom. It took about ten trips outside before he finally learned to go outside! He's had only one accident since then, but that was our fault because we didn't take him outside after he'd been playing. He's really such a smart puppy! He sits automatically when he wants something, and now he is picking up on "stay" very quickly. He mostly sleeps during the day, and likes to conk out on the couch. Yesterday we took him to the vet, where he was surrounded by huge dogs. They didn't really phase him though; he just stayed on my lap quietly and calmly. We did learn that he has some sort of malformed jaw—sort of like an overbite. Hopefully it causes minimal problems! Lately he's really gotten used to his new home. My dad's banker sent him a box of toys and treats, and he LOVES one of the toys. He throws it around and chases after it like nothing else he has. Anyway, if you want to see a bit of our cute little boy, here are some pictures and videos:
This whole pet food debacle is kind of concerning. I've been watching/reading the various reports that have come out, and it is so sad what has happened to so many pets. One of the reports, on the Today Show, discussed some symptoms to watch for in your pet, including loss of appetite, drowsiness, and vomiting.
Before my beagle Buddy died in November, he had these same symptoms. Now, I'm not sure if the food that has been recalled applies to food bought back then, but he sure did eat food from those pouches. It's been too long for me to remember the exact brand, but it was chicken in gravy or something. We just assumed he stopped eating because he was being picky. For a time we'd just put a little of the food from the pouches on top of his dry food, but we eventually got to the point where it was exactly opposite. I know it doesn't make a difference at this point whether he died from his food or age or whatever, but it's still something I've been thinking about.
My parents' brand new Havanese puppy comes home tomorrow evening, and I assure you he'll be eating DRY food.
Here's Charley, as of a month ago, by the way:
It seems like all I write about on here is dogs, doesn't it? Well, this isn't going to be any different. Today my mom received some pictures of the Havanese we'll be getting next month. The breeder says Charley (apparently my parents have rejected the usual spelling) is growing like a weed, though you wouldn't guess that based on how small he appears in the pictures. In fact, I doubt he weighs more than two pounds, if that at all. Anyway, meet Charley:
