I just found this little puppy on Kijiji.com, and am bummed that she's so young. I really don't think my apartment managers would let me have her, since she's only eight weeks old, but look at that face!

I started looking for a dog again, this time on Petfinder. Here are my findings:

Tomi, a terrier/spaniel mix

So this is Tomi, a small terrier/spaniel mix, who is five-and-a-half months old. I filled out an application for her, but I don't think I was accepted because the foster group said they'd contact me in 12 hours if I was, and that was on Monday. Oh well. Cute, though, right? Maybe I'll hear back from them someday.

Mocha, a mutt

Here's Mocha, who is a schnauzer/tibetan terrier/dachshund mix, a.k.a. a mutt. She and her three siblings are at the humane society a few hours north of Seattle, so I'm not sure how interested I am. Also, she's four month old, and my apartment building is hesitant to allow any dogs under six months old.

And that's all! So it's a slow search so far, but that's probably for the best. If you happen to see a cute, young puppy available in Washington area (female, preferably), please let me know.

Oh, and tomorrow I finally get to see my Charley! I've missed my puppy, who has been on vacation in Arizona since the beginning of February. My sister and I went down to visit him and my mom last month, and we tried to teach him to swim:

This is the sixth entry in which I've discussed my hunt to find the perfect Havanese. Will it ever end? I hope so.

Yesterday I saw that a breeder in Oregon put up a new puppy on her site named Keeper, and he's the brother of the puppy from my first hunt-related post (Kendi).

Keeper

He's nine-months old, weighs about 11 pounds, and is crate-trained, housebroken, and neutered. If I decide to get him, the breeder is going to give me the mat he sleeps on and some of his toys, which is always a good thing.

My sister and I are going to drive down to her house (which is four hours away) on Saturday to see him, but I do have some hesitations. First, he's actually related to my parents' dog, Charley (first cousins), and I'm not sure I want a dog that looks so much like him. My mom says they look like twin cousins. I was actually hoping to find a black-and-white dog, and Keeper is quite light in color. Secondly, I got a bit used to the idea of getting a female, but I guess that's not a huge deal (except the fact that a tag with the name Ellie is on the way).

I really wish the other breeder hadn't given the female puppy to her sister (they had some sort of trade deal, I guess). I think she would have been just perfect for my situation! Plus, she didn't look much like Charley at all. But I know I just need to drop it, and hope the right dog comes along sooner than later.

Ellie?

Tomorrow my sister and I are going to look at the puppy from my last post. I'm excited! In fact, I'm so excited that I just might decide to bring her back with me, instead of having the breeder keep her until the end of March. (And if Stephanie has her way, that's exactly what will happen. She keeps saying she's a great convincer and that I need to be spontaneous.) That would mean the dog would have to come down to Arizona with me, though, which might be more of a hassle than it's worth at $150. Charley might have fun with a new friend down there, though.

Anyway, I'm buying a few supplies just in case, and I already ordered an ID tag (so I darn well better get a dog named Ellie at some point). Stephanie and I are going to go get a crate and some other things in a little bit.

Darn, the puppy I posted about before has now been placed. Now the breeder is communicating with me about her friend's six-month-old female.

She's awfully cute, but I was hoping to find a dog with darker coloring. I know, that's not a very important factor, but I'd rather have a dog that doesn't look so much like Charley. We'll see, though. I'm going to try to drive down south this weekend to see her and try to make a decision.

Also, I think I'm nearly decided on the name Eleanor (Ellie). Any other suggestions?

I may have had some partial success!

When I first decided that perhaps the time was right to get a dog (a.k.a. Wednesday), the first person I e-mailed was the breeder of my parents' dog, Charley. I'd e-mailed her in the past asking about future litters, but had never gotten a response, until today.

While I was at work, I checked my e-mail, only to find this puppy looking back at me:

She is four months old right now, which is younger than I was looking for, but she's too cute not to consider.

The main reason I was hoping to get an older puppy is because my apartment doesn't allow dogs under one year old. However, the reason for that rule is because they don't want people to housetrain inside their too-expensive units (ah, but I showed them when Charley pooed on my carpet within two minutes of stepping inside the door). On my way home from work, I stopped into the leasing office to ask whether the one-year-old rule was strictly enforced. The answer: no, it is not! He said that being housetrained is pretty much the deciding factor for them, so hopefully the puppy already is, or will be by the end of March.

Ah, yes, March. That is the other obstacle between myself and dog ownership. I am going down to Arizona for almost a week around Easter, so I wouldn't want to pick up the puppy until after then. I don't really think it will be an issue as long as I put a deposit down on her, because last year she kept Charley for a month longer than she usually does. But hopefully she's not trying to find this puppy a home as soon as possible!

So now I'm crunch the numbers and trying to make sure I can actually afford her. I'm hoping so!

If you have any great ideas for names, please let me know (just in case). I'm horrible at thinking of girl dog names that aren't super common. So far my ideas are: Eleanor (Ellie), Margot, and Franny.

But then she got adopted by someone else.

I am on the hunt for a dog, though, from Havanese breeders in the area. I can't get a puppy, but sometimes show-dog-rejects like miss Kendi up there become available. I am hopeful.
